South Korea Jobless Rate Falls In August
South Korea’s unemployment rate fell in August as people stopped looking for job amid the coronavirus pandemic, figures from Statistics Korea showed on Wednesday.
The jobless rate fell to a seasonally adjusted 3.2 percent in August from 4.2 percent in July. In the same month last year, the unemployment rate was 3.1 percent.
On an unadjusted basis, the unemployment rate decreased to 3.1 percent in August from 4.0 percent in the previous month.
The number of unemployed decreased to 864,000 in August from 1.138 million in the preceding month. Compared to a year ago, the figure rose by 6,000 persons.
The number of employed persons decreased by 274,000 year-on-year to 27.085 million in August.
